"someone" doesn't die - the relationship with the someone dies - and you bury that. Where do you bury a relationship? In the ashes of your memory. You take out those aspects of the relationship that still have a charge for you and then you rewrite those events in the light of new understanding and release the old understanding. In that way, you become free from the chains of past emotions and past events that bind you to them. Understand them in a new way. Then you can symbolically let them go by completing some outer ritual which has meaning and significance for you. Magically they become dead for you, or even, in time, as if they never existed.

You can't bury a soul. A soul is always seeking for its home even when it dies.

Lovely question btw. :)
