I live within Westminister Council region - it was in residents parking area that started at 8.30am. Presumably that is when I was ticketed because it was already on the truck at 8.45.
I live here but just had a rental car that we were returning at 9am. So I guess we deserve the ticket. But is was the day after boxing day - the street was completely empty - it is just a quiet residential street - so it seems very unfair. We stopped them but it was already on the truck so they took it away. The ticket was $65 but with the towing it is about £250. 10 minutes overtime in an empty street.

Can they tow me like that? Do I have any rights?

You have the right to obey the parking restrictions, you chose not to.

I s'pose that technically you broke the rules and technically they were within their rights. That's what you get when some pointy-headed local government jobsworth regards the motorist as a cash cow.

Certainly take it to appeal - especially if you've evidence of the street being empty like a photo. It's been known for the Adjudicator to be human on occasion, but don't mouth off at him!

Rules are rules and they (are made to be broken) what are you snow white, you know these people are taking the piss and enjoying every minute of it so why back them just because someone in whitehall says "that will be done" and the puppets do it to their own people who work for a living which is more than they do> and as for rights my old son, no, they went out the window 10 years ago

Westminster Council are renowned for doing things like this. They are a filthy bunch of vile thieving loathsome scum. This incident does sound like you should fight back!!
Appeal the ticket and your treatment. Take your case to the Parking Adjudicator. I'm sure that there are websites dedicated to this sort of thing (I'm sorry that I can't think of any off hand, I think there is Motorists For Justice).
More and more people are getting sick of this unfair and illegal treatment bestowed upon them by Councils and private clamping and towing firms. More people are starting to fight back and win.
Good Luck!!
