Whoever told you to stay away from Partition Magic is on crack...! There's absolutely nothing wrong with using it. In fact, it's the best 3rd-party utility out there for resizing or modifying existing partitions.

This guy who told you that...did he happen to suggest an alternative? It doesn't sound like he/she knows what they're talking about.

Other methods depend on how your hard drive is setup. You have to see if the drive has any unpartitioned space available. If so, then you can just use Windows Disk Management to create another logical partition and you're done. If not, then the only option Windows gives you is to delete an existing partition creating unpartitioned space. Then you can re-create multiple partitions out of that space. Of course, the BIG downside is that you lose the data that was stored on that partition. That, and it's a real pain in the as*.

Partition Magic generally works well. However there is always a risk when making major changes to a system. Make sure you are well defragmented etc before proceeding. Also back everything up.

I have used Partition Magic and not had any problem.

The other way would be FDISK, in DOS mode.

PQ Magic is much more robust. Install the Full GUI version, to create, merge or split existing partitions without destoying your data.

The person who told you NOT to use PM? Did he/she try a non funcitonal demo version? Did they try a pirated, f'd up version? I have PM as well. Works like a charm. PM is the industry standard.
