It is when you have your mail sent to the post office and they put it in a numbered box for which you have a key. You have to go there to pick it up instead of having it delivered to your house.

its a post office box.....basically people who do not want mail to come to their home will opt to rent a box at the post office so their mail will go there for collection....and they can collect it when it suits them as they have a key.....
