It’s NOT the seventies anymore. Let's stop this trend now. If certain black people think they're connecting with their culture by giving them fake names, they're not. They're actually disasscociating themselves from their ancestors if not pissing on their heritage. Your African-American ancestors had names like Sam, Ella, and Dinah Mae and your African ancestors had names like Menes, Suah and Orbour. NOT LaTrina and D'Ronique or whatever. So cut the crap. They're NOT you're culture. Oh yeah, and I think Latrina is Latin for toilet.

And please don’t pull the “slave name” card. After slavery black people still WILLFULLY gave their kids American names. Why? Cause they're American and didn't want to self segregate and demean themselves. They had integrity. So give your child either an American name, or an African name, but NOT a fake name. Self-segregation only causes more racial tension and prejudice. We don't want that. Latin and Asian-Americans give their kids real names. Why don’t you do the same? I’m just thankful my mama and dad were sober when naming us. And I’m proud to be black, so please don’t pull that “self-hatred” card. I’m just part of real black culture and am in touch with my roots, not psuedoblack culture.

I like the term you just used, pseudoethnic, because people have been calling these things ghetto names. People have forgotten why they started naming their children like this in the first place. I've heard a girl with the name Chlamydia, but it was spelled K'La'Midia. I don't think people understand that these names can ruin someone's future.

You or no one else have the right to tell someone what to name their child. Really!! If someone raises and take care of a child for eighteen years, then they can do whatever they want. Your arrogance is unbelievable. I have a child and I named him what I wanted, although the name is traditional. I refuse to let ANYONE tell me that a child that I carried for 42 weeks, went through 8 hours of labor, took three months to get my figure back and work my azz off taking care off, you cannot tell me what to name my child. If I am pregnant now as I suspect, you can guarantee that I do not give a flying fart in space what you or nobody else thinks when I name MY child. Name your child Bob, Billy, or Sue. I could care less, but do not think that you or anybody else have the right to tell me what I name my child. How dare you?!!!

People are free to name their kids in whatever way they like, and those kids are free to change their name once they grow up if they don't like it.

I've lived in an all-white town and all women were named one of four: Karen, Elizabeth, Jane and Catherine. I found that hilarious. In any meeting with more than a dozen women, there were always three or four with one of those names.

Well, if it's any consolation, white parents are just as ridiculous with their pseudo-classy names like Tiffany Madison and Paris Desirea. there are so many beautiful real names, why do people think they're going to improve on them so easily?

Hopefully soon... I think it will end as soon as speaking ebonics does. I don't mean to come off as a racist, especially beceause it turns up more and more in the white community nowadays, but it's just dumb.
