OK, here is the EASY way to keep your private pictures Private. Click on the folder in Explorer, right click, then click properties and check the box marked HIDDEN. Then, in the Tools option, click on folder options, the view tab, then scroll down to Do Not Show HIdden Folders. Nobody will know its there unless they come back and check Show HIdden Folders. Of course this is not a password lockable feature in itself, but people doing basic browsing through your files and folders will never know its on your drive, which is nearly as stealthy as trying to crack a locked folder that they KNOW you want to keep them out of.

If you have windows xp or windows 2000 installed and you are the administrator then simply make your document private and enable a password on your account. To make documents private, right click on my documents, click on properties and click on sharing tab. You should have a check box there which says "make folder private". If you are using other versions of windows you can try some third party software like FolderGuard. But make sure you do not forget the password.

Sure, right click on the folder and click properties. Click the "Sharing" tab and check the box, "Make this folder private". It will then use either A) your account password OR b) a password specified by you. Apply the settings and restart.

It depends on what version of Windows you have. If it's 2000 or XP, then yes you can.

The previous post is right if you have XP Home and your hard drive is formatted in the NTFS format. However, if you have XP Professional, you might have a "Security" tab instead depending on whether or not "Simple File Sharing" is turned off. If you have your drive formatted in FAT32, then security permissions won't exist at all.

There are a lot of factors. I suggest you search on the net for "file security" or for "Simple File Sharing".

one way to lock it without using any software is to zip it up and create a password to open the zip file. If you want a software to do it, use Folder Lock.
