Well you put the collar with a magnet attached (included with door) on the cat and when the cat gets to the cat flap the cat door opens and will only open to the cat wearing the collar solving all your raccoon problems and pesky cat problems good luck and Happy New Year.

yes these cat flaps do work we had one the only draw back that we found is the magnets are quite heavy and large plus our cats kept loosing them, that was a few years back so they might have improved the design..hope that helps and Happy New Year...
