I am 36 years old. I live in new york state. I have been drinking alcohol and smoking pot since I was 14. I have had many, many jobs in this area. I especially work as a cook in restaurants. It has gotten so bad that I cannot get a job and keep it. I have no hope for the future, and nothing to look forward to.I have not smoked pot in at least a month, I have not drank alcohol in a week and a half. I need somekind of something to look forward to. I have tried AA and inpatient rehabs, but I always go back to the drugs and drink. Please help me.

Despite it's name, Teen Challenge works with people of all ages who want to turn their life around. It has the highest success rate in the World; 86% after 5 years are still drug & alcohol free. AA's cure rate is 3% after 2 years.
Look it up on the web & good luck on the willingness to change. Good New Year's resolution, too!

See an MD for a Rx for Antabuse for the drinking, and Zyban for the smoking urge. Thats the short term. Formally you need to come to discover what it is that these avoidant activities are fulfilling for you. No one needs them, they simply reduce anxiety. Find whats causing the anxiety and the percieved 'need' for the drugs is relieved.

You need professional help, which is something that can't be found over the internet.

If you think you have no hope for the future, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Optimism works wonders, trust me. I'm annoyingly optimistic ;)

*hugs*

If you decided to stop drinking and smoking is good. Try not to count how many days you can do. keep in mind that you decided not to drink and smok. I belieave, all things will be all right. Be calm and honest, God is coming to help you.

What do YOU want? if your unhappy change your lifestyle. not just what you have for breakfast. change everything. because i bet everything you are doing now is reminding you of when you smoked that joint or when you had your last jack daniels. if you have a missus, focus on her. she'd love that. n if you don't have one focus on a future missus because no one wants to be a wreck when they meet the love of their life now, do they?
Have a bit of faith! not in God or anything. just in yourself coz only you can change you.

Do you have eternal hope? Try going to church to talk with a pastor. You don't have anything to lose.

Good luck.
