I have an old emachine etower 633ids and a couple of weeks ago the cpu fan started making loud noise. On top of that it keeps de-throttling. I have opened up the computer and confirmed it. I changed the heatsink and the fan, and also the power supply just to be safe. I'm thinking there is something wrong with the motherboard or the BIOS. I used to be able to sleep with the computer on in my room, but now it makes sound like a lawn mower. What can i do?

i don't think dust is the problem, but i will give it a try. I turned on the computer as soon as i put in the new heatsink, with the side open, and instantly it started to make LOUD noise and de-throttle. Thanks in advance for all the advice.

Unplug the computer and use canned air to blow it out. It may be dusty. If thats not the case, then you may need to get another fan.

Try canned air. It is most often dust that starts making the fan louder.

many times, particularly with P4 machines the wires for the fan on the heatsink gets into the fan on the acceptable of the cpu heatsink. This motives humming yet finally the wires pass, then once you close down the wires go lower back into their old place inflicting the humming. only one thing else to learn. solid success
