What Should I do? Isnt there some sort of law that prevents him from giving me this bare-handed? When I ask him why he did not have any gloves on, he responded that his hands were clean! I live in Illinois

The answer to your question requires some explanations. First, what is a urologist. A urologist is a physician who has specialized knowledge and skill regarding problems of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. Because of the variety of clinical problems encountered, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required of the urologist. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty. A urologist with advanced qualifications in surgery may be a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Second, the CDC in the year 2002 standarized the wearing of gloves for physicians during routine examinations by a urologist.

Generally, the physican is liable for any inections or other types of medical problems that occured during this examination. The reason that the physican is liable is due to violating the standard of care set by the CDC in 2002.

Most physicians wear gloves to protect themsleves from getting infections from the patients. However, there have been cases of health care providers giving infections to patients when they have not worn gloves.

Therefore, what you should do is seek legal assistance ASAP from an attorney in the state of Illinois.
Third, you would have to contact a attorney in the state in which you live to determine what remedies are available to you.

The reason for using an attorney in the state in which you live is that the physician is licensed by the state and not the federal government. Therefore, the state has the right to take the physician's license away or take other types of disciplanary actions. The attorney would have the right to pursue monetary damages according the the state law.

Ive forgotten the law but yes there is a law that requires a doctor to wear at all physical times gloves. This is to prevent any kind of bacteria/virus etc from moving host to host. Go see a lawyer I think it is under the malpractice law but I could be wrong.

I would recommend that you contact the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, specifically the Division of Professional Regulation. They should be able to explain to you what kind of regulations or industry standards exist for doctors in your state. Furthermore, they would be the people you would contact in order to get the doctor investigated for his actions.

Beginning with the Professional Regulation group would have one main advantage over hiring a lawyer - it won't cost you anything. In addition, it would be possible that would be the first step any lawyer would take, if you did hire one.

Hope that helps!

I hope you mean gynecologist.. A urologist would only be interested in your urinal tract and would be unlikely to give a vaginal exam. The rectal exam just wouldn't happen, it's nothing to do with the area they specialist in.

:( i don't know the answer to this... but I hope you find out (whether or not NOT wearing gloves is permissible according to some places' policies...)

i wouldn't go back to that dude though. sounds like you're not comfortable with that.

i would find out that particular place's policy... not just if it's okay in some tim-buck-two place... and see that he gets in trouble if he is in the wrong.

such exams are very private! i hope he's not a sicko.

As long as his hands are clean, there is no problem. Barehands should also make the exam easier. However, I hope he did the vaginal exam first...

The best thing to do is ask for a female doctor.

I'm not an expert, but I'm sure there's something wrong with that...
