when i was renting and had to clean the place b4 i moved out ...
i didnt pay anyone (waste of money)
I just vaccumed the carpet, mopped the tiles, scrubbed the bathroom, cleaned the kitchen (and the oven even though it was rusting inside and the stupid agent wouldnt give me my money back until i cleaned it coz she thought it was dirty)
I ran a moist cloth on the walls
and it worked for me
why waste money on cleaning when you dont have to ...(and they wont know otherwise)
:P

Pack everything you do not have to use that last week. This will remove the clutter. Place boxes in the corner of the living room nearest the front door. Then some rooms can get done in advance.
Remove everything from the walls and repair holes and touch up.
Clean all appliances,(then you will only have to polish up on the last day) eat down on groceries for the last 2 or 3 weeks, less to move and less to clean around.
Once your oven and stove are perfectly clean, avoid using them.
Clean the inside of the windows as you clean each room. Be sure to clean the inside of all closets and cabinets.
Spotlessly clean the bathrooms, every inch. You want them to look the way you would be willing to bathe in if you rented next.
After everything is moved out, thoroughly vacuum and have Stanley Steam cleaners do the carpeting, when the place is empty. They are worth the money and faster and better than doing it yourself.
Keep a bucket of cleaning products in the house until you walk out the door, so you can do any touch ups necessary. Windex, spray cleaners, cleaning rags, a sponge, one brillo.
Take about three photos of every room and all the way around the outside of the house, show the carpeting, inside of the fridge and inside of the stove and inside of the cabinets.
Get photos of the the inside and outside of the outside doors. Sometimes they get damaged. You want proof that they are in good condition.
You want this evidence (should you need it) Have the photos developed 1 hour so they will be dated that day.
Good Luck on your moving day.

First do things that wont get redirtied before you leave. Walls, closets, steamclean carpet ... really look into the details as you take your stuff out. There is one very important step ... one I won a law suite with for my deposit ... a step after you take all your stuff out on the last day. Take high quality photos of EVERYTHING, everyhwere in the house, inside cupboards, stove, tub, toilet, sink ... good shots of floors and carpet, ceiling, outside the house close up of the exterior walls. Don't let them know you did this so they try to nit pick something they think you dont have a picture of. If they wont give your deposit back, get a detailed letter as to why. Don't say anything. If you have pics of what they are talking about, go down to your local courthouse and file in small claim court (usually just cost a few bucks to file) for your deposit. Bring your photo album of 8x10 glossies and take your money home.

Move all your thing out and just clean. If you still live in the apartment, then move everything you can into the living room and clean that part last.Be sure to spray some vinegar mixed with water around on the carpet, to make it smell clean.the odor will leave when the carpet is completely dry, so use a fan and close the door.I would do each room that way. Then when you move completely, the living room will be easy--vaccum and close the door.

Just clean as much as you can with your stuff there and then finish up the rest when your stuff is gone. Be meticulous and actually clean clean because usually they'll find something to deduct your deposit. If your deposit is quite a bit it might be easier to hire a maid service.

Depending on how well you know your landlord, all you can do is clean the place as if you're still living in it. Chances are, you will not get the whole/complete deposit back, so don't stress yourself over it.

Ask the landlord, I waxed all the floors once and almost lost my deposit. Thinking I was doing them a favor, they raised holy heck with me. Small claims court thought they were wrong not to let me know but that can happen.

wait until the home is vacant, sweep the floors, return the key and ask for your money.
