Yeah so they can't fall in the holes. Any other shape (square etc) could possibly fall in on top of a worker.

So the cover doesn't fall through. If they were any other shape, the covers could fall into the hole. For a square, simply tilt it 90° verticly; then rotate it 45° in any direction and drop it.
