Shouldn't everyone hit at least 65-70% of their FT's?

Because the shots still depend on an imperfect HUMAN to shoot them. With perfect humans or robots, the outcome of every match should be able to be determined beforehand. With humans, the imperfections make the game worth watching, because you never know who's gonna ^#$^Y#$ up tonight.

The only way to be good at free throws is practice, practice, practice. Many pros and college stars just don't spend time on practicing the basics, like free throws. Heck, some don't even show up for practice.
Being a good free throw shooter doesn't take any technology - just get out there and shoot free throws for hours and you will hit more than 70%.

well people should also stop killing each other. the only way to consistently get better at free throws is lots and lots of practice. if guys spent that much time on it, then just aobut everyone would hit 70% or so, but the rest of their games would suffer, because that practice time is taken away from something else. also, it's a human being shooting that free throw, and you can't account for the noise, the pressure, the adrenaline, the sweat and everything else that happens in a game in practice. people aren't perfectly consistent, some nights you just shoot better than others. and some players apparently just aren't good at shooting free throws, it happens

They just don't practice shooting free throws enough. If I were a coach I would make everyone shoot at least 50 free throws every day! That's the only way to make someone a good free throw shooter.

AS A RULE BIG MEN ARE NOT GOOD FT SHOOTERS. THE WAY TO GET BETTER IS PRACTICE. WE MUST ADMIT THAT PRACTICE CAN'T HELP SOME PLAYERS.
