so, i have successfully quit both drinking and smoking.

but, i'm bit scared that i may get any serious health problems due to my past habits of drinks and smoking. i had just (4 cigerettes a day) and drinking beer or rum( 2 full beers a week or 1 quarter rum a week) for the last 8 years, i'm being afraid that i may i get serious health diseases like lung cancer due to smoking and any other deadly diseases due to drinking.

eventhough i have quit these habits, i'm being mentally troubled by these fears of diseases that i may get due to my past habits of drinks and smoking for the last 8 years.

are there any chances of getting any serious diseases due to this 8 years of smoking and drinks?

what can i do?..help me please

shall i go for any medical checkups?..if so, what are the medical check ups i have to take? to what parts of my body i have to take these checkups?

or else, are there any other remedies?

The amount you were drinking should cause absolutely no bad effects; in fact, a small amount of alcohol daily is very beneficial to the health. But only a small amount - heavy drinking (which you were not doing) is very bad for health. If you feel better not drinking, then don't drink, but small amounts of alcohol are harmless for most people (just not for alcoholics).

The smoking is bad, even just four cigarettes a day. The likelihood of cancer from that amount of smoking is quite a lot less than for a heavy smoker, but ANY amount of tobacco is bad for your health. There is no way of knowing so soon after you quit, as lung cancer has a long develping period, but after ten years of being smoke-free, you are unlikely to have any further problems from past smoking. Every day you go without cigarettes will be a day you are bulding your health instead of damaging it.

Try to eat a healthy diet and take a good multi-vitamin pill. The chances are very good that you will be all right, but do everything you can to improve your health. An annual general medical checkup should be enough. Tell your doctor you are an ex-smoker and (s)he will listen to your lungs very carefully. No special tests should be needed.

Congratulations on your decision to take care of your health - and on your marriage! I wish you happiness and good health for a long and loving married life.
