I've heard some women's stories where they have not gone into labour until 42 weeks, which horrifies me! I don't want it go on that long and was hoping to have my baby around 38 - 40wks.

In general, first pregnancies go overdue. I was induced at 8 days overdue and had my 8lb 11oz baby girl in the wee hours of day 9...Don't plan on going early: you may be very disappointed!! Just try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy: believe it or not, you will miss it when it's over!!

Good luck and congratulations!

The best thing u can do if you want to go into labor early-at your next check up your doctor will tell you if you are dialated at all. If you are WALK WALK WALK. If you are not then there is not much you can do. They used to say having sex could speed up the process because the sperm ate at the lining, but are now saying that's untrue. Most OBGYN's will not induce you unless there are complications or you are 2 weeks overdue. I was one week overdue with my daughter (my first), and was not dialated at all. Good luck!!! This is the easy part to wait around, the hard part comes later.

My first child was 13 days late. The next 3 were late too. Those 4 were boys. My daughter was on time. I never had 28 day periods. I was always several days late. Not sure, but maybe that will give you an idea as to if you will be early or not.

What difference does a couple of weeks make? You don't want to go into labour early and have a baby who needs medical care do you?
My babies got earlier and earlier. So this might be the longest pregnancy you ever have!! AND it might be the only pregnancy you ever have.....
So why don't you enjoy it while you have the chance.

The average length of gestation for 1st time moms is 41 weeks + 1 day. The average length of gestation for multips (those who have had more than one) is 40 weeks + 3 days. So, you are not really even "due" until over 41 weeks. Sorry!

The baby will be born when it is ready to come out.

I predict your baby will be born on the 18th of January—still a Capricorn but near the cusp—and will be strong and healthy, which is what you want, with all its toes and fingers. The Great Swami has spoken.....

Lighten up. You will need a sense of humor for the long haul of parenthood ahead!!!!

My first experience as a mom was with my twins who were full term and came on the due date the doctor predicted. Just relax and enjoy the time you have now...your hands will be full before you know it! Congratulations and Happy New Year!
