The biggest single event or story of the year - National or International, one of each. In 50 or 500 years time what will people think of when 2006 is mentioned? For instance 1066 was the Battle of Hastings; 1914 the start of the First World War. How will this year be remembered?

For me it's a toss up between the war in iraq and steve irwin dying. On an international level I do think it is iraq because it is an international community out there fighting the war on terrorism. For national, and being an aussie, it would have to be steve irwin. I think that was the most reported about story in our history - pretty close to it anyway. I realise he made international news also but I'm an aussie so I'm biased hehe.

It would have to be Scottish MSP Tommy Sheridan's antics in court as he defended himself against Rupert Murdoch's - News of the World. newspaper.. Tommy was exposed as a mad Swinger who enjoyed romps with his Brother -in-law .& others in Manchesters Cupids club...The Socialist with the Tan - convinced the Jury he was innocent ..and made a dramatic "Braveheart" speech out side Edinburghs High Court.. His interviews on BBC's Newsnight programme were highly entertaining.. this story just edged out John" 2 shags" Prescott's -The Chipolata story.
I think everyone will agree that the War in Iraq was begining to Bore everyone.
