I am downloading some movies for my iPod from LimeWire, but they are mpg and avi format. Will they play on my iPod? Will iTunes automatically convert it to the format for iPod? I think the prefered video format for iPod is mp4 ... I think? Will it work?

Well, you can but you'll need to convert the files into mpg4. I use this converter called 3gp Converter. It's really easy to use and it's free and light. Videora is a little complicated so I don't recommend it.

AFter you convert the videos just open them in iTunes and they'll become part of your video library, then connect the iPod and you know what to do.

i am getting a video this weekend, and i had the same question. I think (not 100 percent sure) after doing some research that ipod plays mp4 and you will need to convert them. I do the same thing to get my movies, and find that avi is much better quality from limewire. Anyways to convert them you will need to either purchase video converting software or find some free ware/ trial video converting software to put them on your ipod as itunes does not convert it. The good news is there is a crap load of trial video converting software, most are 15 days i think. There are also some free ones, but i think that they will probably convert a lot slower since they are free. Just google "converting videos to ipod format" or something like that and a shitload of results and many step by step manuals will appear
Hope this helps!!!

Buy copy123dvd gold. about $19 from circuit city. Then plug in your video ipod. Make sure you press the enter or center button. open you "my computer" and make sure you see your ipod as a new source. (make sure Itunes is off) then open copy123 dvd Gold, load DVD and you will have copies of dvds on your ipod. Have done about 40 so far. Not all works, but most do. you can load hundreds into Itunes then select which ones you want to keep in the ipod. Good luck. It took me a few weeks to figure this one out. For MPG and AVI files, you need to convert theose files ito an acc format. download DIVX plug-ins and then it will work
