They will give you many options. If it is for regulating your periods then go with a pill. If it is for sex I would pick depo. It is a shot you recieve once every three months. It's 99% effective and you have no periods maybe slight spotting though. The pill is easy to forget. At least it is for me. Do your parents know? If not they could also find your pill packs.

The truth of the matter is that you may have to try several different types of BC pills before you find the right one for you. Every one's body reacts differently to ALL medications, that is why there is so many out now. You may find that your body might not be suited for any kind of BC pills. Your Doctor will work with you to find the right fit. Another factor to be considered is that many HMO's will not cover the pills, so you may have to find a way around them. One way is to go to your local health department. They go by income and your privacy is still protected, and they are always a good source of STD testing and treatment if you are sexually active. If you do start taking BC pills, you should be aware that they are not effective for a while (a couple of months). You have to build a level in your system before they are effective, and then they are not 100%. Also, some medications like antibiotics can make the BC less effective, so have other means of protecting yourself if you choose to be active. The best and most effective method, second to abstinence, is educating yourself and acting on that education, don't rely on your friends to tell you the truth, they may not know what the truth is. Never be afraid to ask a nurse or a doctor, they will be honest with you and we have heard every type of question you could ever think of at least 1000 times before. Good Luck!

What they prescribe might depend on your insurance. Most will put you on Ortho Tricep or something close. I personally found that Yasim 28 worked for me with the least amount of side effects. If you forget to take pills thoughm there is a shot you can get every three months, but it made me gain like 20 lbs!
