I'm looking to buy a car, at the moment i don't have one, just sold my last one and my boyfriend has been telling me to get a honda civic, (he had a 2000 honda intergra type R) i only have about $2,000 to spend so i don't wanna get something too expensive, i just want to hear from some people who own a honda civic (preferably an older one) to know what they are like and how reliable they are.

This is the car i've been looking at getting: http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/HONDA/CIVIC/South%20Australia/2157943.aspx

I drive a 2002 Honda Civic and it's the lowest maintenance car anyone could ask for. Easy to drive, great gas mileage, it's the real deal.

The car looks clean but that can be deceiving. Don't forget that unit is 26 years old, and it was built before Honda started to build up its reputation for reliablity. (like today's Kia). If $2000 is all you have, I suggest you get a small loan and finance an 89-91 model. You will save money in the long run.

I’ve only owned one Civic in my life, a 1981 model, but I’ve worked on a lot of them here in the U.S. Personally, I think the Honda is way over rated, and I’m not impressed with them in any way.

I don’t know what the car market is like in Australia, but I’d buy the Ford pick up in the background before I’d take the Civic.

Hondas are great cars, but that thing is ancient. It's probably hard to find much in that price range, but I think you could find something from the early 90's. It would have a lot of miles on it, but it would have the benefits of modern safety features like air bags, antilock brakes, and the reliability of fuel injection. Maybe try some private sellers rather than just car lots.

Wow Australia huh... I haven't seen a 1980 civc in a long while. Hondas are good reliable cars but if you can find something a little newer than do that. Can you tell us what the conversion of AUS to US dollars is? Thanks

that's pricey for a real old civic, you should be able to get a low 90s year vehicle for the price
