I lived there for a year and still visit the family that I lived with. The typical greeting is a kiss on the cheek (female/female, female/male and within families male/male). Mate is a tea that is shared. It is considered rude to turn it down and there is no wiping of the straw--no germaphobes need apply. It is primarily Roman Catholic, yet it is an open society- very much like some European countries. Very high literacy rate and people who can get things done. I guess if you were more specific, I could be too.

I think Uruguay is a wonderful vacation destination. I'm from Argentina and I love it there. I think Uruguayans are pretty easy going people. At least on the seaside are, they are quite relaxed, never in a hurry. Always kind and always carrying a "termo and a mate" to drink wherever they are.
Go to Cabo Polonio, it's wonderful.

Get you a thermos bottle and a Yerba mate cup with a fancy sipper dipper and walk around.
