My best friend and I are both left handed. We were recently discussing some of the things right handed people believe to be true of left handed people in America. We came up with quite a list of things we have heard over the years, so I thought it would be interesting to see what people from different parts of the country (and the world for that matter) believe to be true/different about left handed people.

I think left handed people are very talented and gifted. Yes, they do seem to have sloppy handwriting, but every time I find out that a certain entertainer or other gifted person ( my mom included) is left handed, I am not surprised.
My favorite examples: Michael Landon, Paul McCartney and of course, my extremely talented Mom.

Good question.

I'm left-handed, and people usually assume that :
a) I Have sloppy handwriting (which isn't true.. I actually have very streamlined/elegant penmanship).
b) I Do/Use/Hold everything backwards/upsidedown. (Again, not true. I'm right-handed at things like throwing a ball, and such).
c) I am "right-brained". (The left and right sides of the brain control different aspects of how we function. For example, the left side allows us to read words [ie, 'dog'.], but the right side allows us to actually picture the dog in our mind; what it looks like. The right side is more 'creative', if you will.)

Those are the only stereotypes I've really come across, being a lefty..

That left handed people are "right-brained." (Since the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body.)

I was told as a child that if I was left handed I would strain my heart and die young. Can you believe that? They really said that to me!

That they're commies or nazis, or extreemists who can't controll their tempers and tend to fly off the handle and are uptight (just a stereotype, I don't believe this, but some do).
