I read that the US govt has decided that food from a cloned animal is safe to eat. Is it really safe? How exactly is a clone formed? Does a cloned animal grow up like a real livestock feeding on grass n such or does it grow in a lab as I have seen in movies for human clones??

First you have to know what a clone is: A clone is an exact copy of the original living thing. By this, I mean, it is exactly the same in terms of its Genotype (genes) and Phenotype (physical appearance). In other words, on the inside and out - its an exact (carbon) copy.
When you clone a living creature, you're basically re-growing that exact same thing. So, if I cloned my dog - which had a scar on its ear, the clone would grow with the scar on the exact same spot on its ear.
Clones are made when you are able to extract most of its genetic material (DNA) from the thing you want to clone, usually a single body cell from the animal is enough to do this. From there, you need to find a way to grow the clone.
Growing the clone is the hard part because you're not always too sure if it will grow and survive. The first cloned animal, Dolly the Sheep didn't survive as long as a normal sheep should have.
Anyway the process of Cloning is complicated but, you need an unfertilized egg - and you need to plant a new nuclear cell inside it. Over time, that single cell will begin to multiply inside the egg- and from there, you can implant this multiplying cell into another animal (preferably of the SAME species!). Eventually, it'll be born - like a normal baby animal comes about. And finally from there, it can grow up like a normal baby animal - which means it can eat the same stuff it should. So, if you really think about it: The clone is formed both inside a lab, AND inside it's 'host' mother. It's 'created' in a lab, but born from an animal that acts as its mother.
And finally, I don't think its a good idea to EAT cloned animals because since they start off being created in a lab, you can't TRUST if they are safe to eat (they might have chemicals injected into them), and on top of that - cloning animals can sometimes ruin its genotype (DNA) - so you never know what kind of 'scientific mistake' you could be eating!
Hope this helps.

A cloned animal is nothing more (or less) than a genetically identical copy of another animal. A clone is created by taking a cell from an embryo in an early stage of division, before any cell specialization has begun, and raising it as a separate animal, not unlike what happens naturally when a human female has identical twins. The FDA reasoned that if you can eat from one cow, you can eat from a genetically identical cow without noticing any difference - - because, in fact, there cannot be any difference to notice. A good call.

If the clone had a soul (it somewhat is extremely probably) then it can be a different and separate individual even though it somewhat is actual characteristics have been same. for this reason you would be accountable of murdering yet somebody else, not killing your self. a similar difficulty applies while asking what to do with "your clone." Being a separate soul the clone would not belong to you to do with what you needed. That cloned individual could have its own rights, and be accorded a similar human dignity. no possible own yet somebody else. it somewhat is mentioned as slavery and we are nevertheless battling that evil immediately in specific areas of the worldwide.

cloning takes a cell from animal a and grows more cells in a dish till its big enough to transplant into a mother animal. then its born in its normal length of time and grows up just like every other cow in the world. all of that grows up over night lab crap is just movies.
