Blood is not actually blue. The veins look blue through the skin because of differential absortion of light by the layers of skin. Venous blood is dark red (as you can see when blood is drawn into a syringe directly from a vein). Arterial blood is bright red. Vertebrates have the iron compound hemoglobin in their red blood cells, which is what makes them red. But some marine invertebrates use a copper compound, hemocyanin, for oxygen transport instead of hemoglobin, and their blood is consequently green.

Not all animals have red blood. The colour to blood is due to the presence of Hemoglobin. Generally warm blooded animals contains hemoglobin in their blood so they have red blood in their body. Some creatures do not have hemoglobin in their blood for example cockroach. Cockroach have white blood. In red blooded animals also there is a difference in colour. The blood with Oxygen is one type of red. The blood without Oxygen(with co2)is blakish red.
