well, sum1 was driving drunk on my block just now...and hit a and broke a hydrant, which lead to the opening of the main supply line to burst open, causeing 10 feet of water in the air and completly flooding my basement with 3 feet of water. This has obviously damaged my house(roten foundation, floor) and personall belongings(books, jewlery) and we're left with no water hot or cold and no bathrooms to use. What should i do in this case in order for my insurance to recompisate my losses? and what do i tell them to cover me for? can i say that it messed up my plumbing system by puutting sand in my pipes(which it did)?

Hello, first off you need to call the police and file a police report ASAP, tell then exactally what happened, if you saw it happen get a description of the vehicle and they will be held liabaile.Your insurance wont do alot untill they see a report in hand...do this asap.
Then when you go to your insurance company, you will have to expain the situation all over again, but I am sure they will get someone to come out and take a look at your home, then they will go from there. They may prosucute the driver,to get their money back. But,this wasnt your fault, and I am 99.99percent it will be covered.
Good luck hon

First of all, it really depends where you live. Keep in mind that what happened happened because of a car on the road and not because you had bad plumbing... Is there no-fault car accident insurance where you live? If so, you might find that the driver's car insurance will pay the costs. Sometimes, your insurance company and the driver's car insurance will share the cost of the damages.

As for the problems you have with your cold and hot running water, you may have to go to a hotel until the problem is fixed. Make certain you keep detailed accounts of all damage costs to be able to claim them.

You should check your insurance policy. Read all the fine print and then contact your insurance company.

One thing to keep in mind whenever you're dealing with an insurance company... 60 minutes did a television show awhile back about insurance company refusing ALL claims made for a 1 year period... it was quite the scandal... EVERY SINGLE CLAIM was refused for a one year period... the insurance company made an astonishing profit that year because so many people won't push it when the company refuses to payout. Only the people who pushed and pushed and hired lawyers got compensated... so don't give up... like the saying goes, the job isn't over till the paperwork is done....

Good luck... and try not to sing row, row, row your boat... =)

Believe it or not, your insurance will not cover it unless you have flood insurance. If you don't know if you have it or not, you probably don't
