When I left click the my computer icon and then left click either one of my cdrom drives M or N and there are no disks in the drives I get the message; M or N:/ is not accessible. The device is not ready. Is this normal? The drives work okay when there are disks in them.

If it is not broken then dont fix it. that is the best answer. i am running windows xp and one drive says "please insert disk..." and the other opens a blank window. I guess it all depends on the maker of your cd drive and the 'mood' of your OS

This is normal. I suspect that it's a memory card reader that's attached, internally or externally, to that computer.
