Hi,
The one you described sounds like it could be a coy, but can't be possitive with out seeing it.

I would not put anymore fish in the 5 gallon tank as this could be stressfull to them. You might try to find a second hand 10 gallon tank. You do not need a bottom feeder as goldfish and coys are bottom feeders and you do not need to heat the tank as they are a cold water type fish. Coys are usually in outdoor ponds and so are gold fish. The bigger their tank the bigger they will grow, but only to the capacity of their tank. If you want them to be bigger, they will need a bigger tank.

When feeding them, only feed them twice a day (Morning and evening) what they will clean up in 5 minutes, otherwise you will foul the water they live in, that is when they can get Ick, Ick is a fungus and looks like fluffy white spots on their scales. It is easily cleared up with Aquarium Iodine drops, but then you will have to have a heater in their tank and shoot up the temp to 80 degrees for about a week or when it all disappears.

Good Luck with your new Fish.

I have no idea what the other fish could be without a picture or at least a better description. Depending on what kind of catfish you have, it may be fine, but there are thousands of species of catfish so again there is no way to know. The goldfish will not be fine at all however. They will stunt VERY easily, which is EXTREMELY unhealthy for the fish. You need at least 20 gallons to keep 1 fancy goldfish healthy, and about 50 for 1 comet. What is happens is that the fish are becomming stunted from being in too small of a tank. When a fish stunts it will become deformed. Deformities include the symptoms of internal organs growing inside the body even though the body is not growing. Soon the organs will grow too large and either 1) 1 or more organs will burst open inside the fish causing a massively painful death for the fish, or 2) An organ will grow too large for the body to be able to supply energy to and the fish will die of some sort of organ failure, usually a slow death over a day or to. Other symptoms of stunting are sculliosis, which can get to the point where the fish can barely move, and does cause severe spinal pain for the fish. So either get a 40 gallon tank or get different fish.

A 5 gallon tank is TOO SMALL for ONE goldfish, never mind TWO. You need either a MUCH bigger tank, or different fish.
IMO, there isn't much that can go in a 5 gallon. The smaller fish that could go in there are all schoolers, and 5 gallons is not enough to house a school (4 or more).

You're options are ONE betta (regardless of gender), ONE Dwarf Gourami, or 4 or 5 African Dwarf Frogs.

If your parents gave it to you and it's more than you can handle, then they should be helping you with it.

they say for every regular sized fish .. its 1 gallon per fish.. the speckled one is it a tetra? depending on how big your fish are... depends on how many fish should be in your tank.. if you get to many the fish could get ick.. which is a sickness they get from stress and is passed among fish... but with goldfish you might need a cory to clean up the goldfish poo...
ick can be fatal if notcurred and sometimes if its really bad i cant be curried... it all depends on the size of fish..
