If you can afford it, lessons may clear up some of that fright. Also, those age old tricks of not looking at the audience, etc may work. My personal opinion: go ahead and join the choir. Don't listen to people if they tease you. The important thing is that you enjoy it.

Stage fright is something you have to over come by practicing. If you really enjoy singing don't worry about what other people think of you. Join the Choir. I did when I was in high school.

That's what I did. I love to sing so I joined the school choir. I loved every minute of it. The first time I ever did a solo was in my school choir. There was no turning back after that. Don't worry about what other people think. Go for your dreams.

you should practice in the mirror and then when your ready do something for your family and then your close friends and then when your ready join the choir and i'm sure they'll accept you. that how it was for me i'm an actor and singer but before i was any of that i was shy now i can perfom in front of a big group with no problem oh and if you can take a speech class do that

you might have heard of james taylor and carly simon. they were married at a point in time.

carly simon-to me and others-has a wonderful voice.
she would never go on tour as she had stage fright
(sp).

they both made a bizzillion dollars with thier voices, but it took Ms. Simon a boatload of years to get over her fear of performing in front of any audience. the wasted revenue is undetermined.

sharing her voice was only in recorded mode and not live....

what do you really want to do?

If you love it go for it! You are holding yourself back and will only regret it. People who tease you fear you or envy you so ignore them. Talk to the choir director and let them know you are nervous about it. they are there to help so let them. good luck!!
