I canceled my phone bill so, we dont use a phone in our house. I think they send you a modem box. but does the box need to have a dial-tone to work?

No. Try Vonage. It's cheap and it works.

No - the cable and the phone are seperate services. The modem for cable and the modem for DSL are different boxes.

Thats only for DSL. high speed internet doesnt need a working phone line.

no, because i don't have a house phone and i have time warner. they hook up the internet through your cable line.
