I got my "big shot" at work ,transferring from Florida to Michigan (yes, a big change). I have 3 children in school who don't want to leave home/friends. What can I do to prepare myself and family for this big change?

I moved a few times growing up. Actually I think it is a real positive. My opinion is having lived a few cities is a good thing, it creates a broader horizon, better socialization skills and builds confidence for what future moves.
Make sure you and your wife are on the same page. This is an exciting and difficult time and that you need everyone to do their best to support each other. Also do not pretend this is a temporary change or that you might be back next year. That is a lie and is encouraging denial and dissention. We are moving to X and that will be our new home.
Depending on the age of the children, I am not sure you should give them too much information or really have a lot of discussion. I think it is more of process of acclimation to the idea. Buy a map, tourist book, print out about the schools, etc and leave those laying around. Let them do a little research.
Good luck
