only a and e are being handled by left

While you could probably find statistics on this somewhere you can make a general hypothesis by observing what letters your left hand actually hits. Vowels are very common in almost every word, and your left hand has access to only two of them, 'a' and 'e'. On top of that, you have uncommon letters like 'q' 'w' 'z' 'x', and 'v' that are also on the left side of the keyboard which would make it seem like your left hand would probably do a little bit less typing than the right side. Here's an interesting tid-bit. The qwerty layout we all use today was actually designed to slow down a typist.
