T.V.'s, computers, phones, cassette tapes, video tapes etc. keep evolving and some being omitted. Do you feel that (paper) books will ever be commonly obsolute?

I hope not. The feel of a book in my hands, reading pages as opposed to internet reading etc....enjoy books very much.

With technology the way it moves forward and the issue of trees . . . what is your thought of the future of books ?

Books will never be obsolete. Their simplicity is the key. You don't have to worry about a book breaking down or having its batteries go dead on you when you can't find somewhere to plug it in. Books can be taken anywhere and everywhere and can take you anywhere and everywhere.

No. Books were around long before phones, computers, and music players, but as these things have evolved and certain aspects of their technology become obsolete over time, books have pretty much stayed the same--a number of pages sandwiched in between two covers. It would be difficult and tedious to read a novel on, say, a computer screen or your iPod, wouldn't it?

Unfortunately, trees will not be an issue on which any American government will take action on anytime soon. The good news is that people like you and me, who love books, can find good homes for them once we are finished with them. We can give them away to friends, family, or charities. We can auction them off on eBay or put them up for sale at Half.com. We can sell them off at a yard sale or donate them to our local libraries. Then, of course, we must close the loop by buying as many recycled paper products as we can.

Viva la books! ;)

Books will be with a long time to come. Have you tried to read and e-book? It is not pleasant. Flipping a page takes time. You have to sit in front of a computer screen. With a book you can read in bed or twist and turn in an overstuffed chair. You can carry a book with you and read at your convenience. A notebook computer is not as portable, even if they evolve like an I-pod for books. Books are friendly, computers are sterile.

I certainly hope not and it won't in my lifetime. It would be sad to think that in the future children and adults alike will not be able to enjoy that very personal relationship one has with a book. I think of my favourite books as my friends.
This reminds me of an ad on TV where the grandparent takes the child to a virtual forest to see what trees were like. Imagine having to enter some virtual library of the future.

It seems that the more computers there are in the world the bigger the book stores in the mall get. So I think books will always be a great gift and of course the coffee table always needs something to fill all that space.

Would'nt think so.After all we have audio discs, but it has'nt done away with bands, orchestras, musicians etc Books may change in some form or another. But the printed word cannot be replaced.A book is something to read at your leisure. To keep, to re-read,To only partly read and finish when you wish.
