It is getting harder and harder for teens to acquire employment. Because of several factors. Teens are generally low skilled workers who now have to compete with the influx of teens turning to that age. Also the huge increase in migration of legal and illegal immigrants who usually have the same educational and American skill levels are all competing for many of the same jobs. Federal child labor laws also limit the work and work hours of teens in school or of school age.
I've listed some web site addresses that are good reference to give you a better idea of the laws and also tips for teens seeking employment. When I was a teen many years ago I started working at age 13. I was from a large family (8 kids) and Mom and Dad just didn't have a lot of extra money for allowances and paying for the things I wanted and sometimes needed. By working it gave me experience and confidence that helped me all my life.
Teens holding jobs as long as they still do good in school is very beneficial in my opinion. Good luck in your search. And I hope the web sites help you somewhat. Good Luck! and Hang in there!

Well you could try to find some job that is off the books. Maybe get a friend or family member to hook you up. If not then try looking at your local Mall or some supermarket or restaurant. There could be a slight chance that they would higher a 16 year old with working papers. If not then you got to wait until you're 18. I'm 17 and I'm doing the same thing.

The best job I ever had was working at Subway! I loved baking the bread, and working around fresh veggies! Your clothes never smell like greasy food and it is so easy. Also, almost everyone that eats at subway is happy, because they know that what they are eating is good for them; so yo won't have to deal with rude people. I think this would be a great job for you! Good Luck!

I'm fifteen and I work at an elderly living facility. A lot of my friends work in restraunts like Arby's and Subway, though.
