The standard system volume is maxed. The crazy Toshiba Virtual sound is on, but at default settings.

open the audio file and check the loudness box

just to be clear - I think there is an external volume knob back on the righ side. and there is sound and audio devices in the control panel.

I do not know which is 'standard' for you so check both...

Like the other guy said this is after checking the power and volume on the speakers and making sure the audio plug is in the proper input on the back of the pc.

there is a lil volume wheel on the front of the laptop, right underneath the "mouse" buttons and touchpad, all the way to the right is loud and all the wya to left is quiet. hope this helps
