Extremely important that she have many domestic skills. She doesn't have to be a great cook (at least not in the beginning), but it should get better with time. Many young women today don't know how to cook. It is an art that used to be passed down from their mothers, and grandmothers. Women today are so used to fast food, and eating in restaurants, wasting money. Even though some men know how to cook, I don't think that should exclude the woman from knowing how to do it! We all should bring some domestic/life skills into a relationship.
Besides working to pay bills, and having sex, there are many other things that are needed to make a relationship successful. I personally have made sure that women who interested me in the past, knew how to cook! If they didn't, then there were usually other things as well that they didn't like to do. Since I am married to a woman who knows how to do all of those things, I don't worry about that problem anymore. Nevertheless, I would advise guys to make sure that anyone they are considering being married to, to know how to cook, unless he would rather do it! I would advise women, who don't want their guy running back and forth to eat at mom's, and wasting money on fast foods and restaurants, to rejuvenate the art of cooking. They say that "a way to a man's heart is through his stomach". That certainly won't happen if she can't cook!

Well I think it depends. For instance, if I were the only source of income for the family and my wife was lazy, didn't work, and didn't know how to cook, then it would be a VERY big problem.

On the other hand, if we both worked and she didn't know how to cook, it wouldn't be that much of a problem because she can always learn how to and we could both take turns cooking for eachother and the family. That is part of what a 50/50 relationship is all about.

It's not terribly important but consider this you won't feel too good if everything you cook your husband looks like he is about to get a root canal. So if she can't, she should work on it.
I don't mind cause I can cook and i like cooking too but for their sake if they can't they might want to brush up on it.

I know your question is for the guys, but here's my take.

My husband will eat anything - even beans out of a can. That's just the way he is. My first husband didn't care either. We ate out a lot.

Of course I learned to cook because I love my husband and have found it very rewarding..

Accctually...the place I lived as a young person on the coast became distant and there have been lots of Natives. they could continuously be tanning hides and smoking meats. So i comprehend while i'm very almost 'homestead' once I bypass to b/c I start up smelling smoked meat and hides.

I'd truely prefer a cooker, or someone who wouldn't mind cooking (or learning) with me, but I'm not too fond of someone who won't cook at all.

Unless they live with me, or are married to me, though, cooking isn't really that important.

it is sooo not that important. you guys out there should learn how to cook. besides if both of you don't know then have fun experimenting with food or join culinary lessons together.

its nice and it tells me that you can take care of yourself but not a real necessary thing. personally i love to cook and find it enjoyable to make new things and try new things and well i have been able to cook circles around all of my girlfriends so not really a big deal.
