Re: Your Age.
I'm 58 and am currently going to college so I can transition into a second career as a teacher. It's never too late.

Re: Felony
Be honest. I've hired people with felonys. Show me what you've done to fix the mistake ... "I've gone to rehab ... I've been clean and sober for X years ... I've completed my degree in Y" ... those are the things that count.

Bobby, I'm 44 and will start my last semester towards my Bachelor's degree. 22 is half of my age!!

Yes, I'm often the oldest student in school, but you have some advantages to returning to school.

1) Older students have been out there in the "real world" for a while and have a better clue about what is necessary to be successful in a workplace. As a person with almost 20+ years between my associate and bachelor's degree, I have the advantage of knowing what is BS and what is realistic about the teaching theories and how they apply to the workplace. A student fresh out of high school probably has very little experience in this area.
2) YOu have a better sense of what you want out of life than most typical 18 year olds.
3) Maturity will do you well in studying. It's easy to want a break and go have fun, but that maturity will keep you motivated towards finishing your studies.
4) Get to know your teachers! Not only will it help you when you are having difficulties, but teachers are great for job recommendations and they are often willing to give letters of recommendation.
5) I may be reading through the lines here, but I think your biggest concern is how to relate to the traditional college student. The age difference between 18 and 22 is very minimal. But you will be able to find some mentors in the 22 year olds who have been through school.
6) Get to know some of the older students. They are there, it's just a case of getting in touch with the right organizations.

Good luck to you and I'm rooting for you!!

Hey! Think positive! 22 is young. some kids are professional full time students until they are 30. A degree would never be a waste of time because it would increase your knowledge and enjoyment of life. And really, there is no age difference between 18 and 25.

Think of your felony as a youthful mistake. Once you get a degree, as long as you don't lie on any job application and you are straight forward - you can get a job!!!! It is never too late to improve your life. You can do it!!!!

Pick something you love and you will excel in it. And once you get a degree you will see doors open. Go for it!!! I'm rooting for you.

what are you talking about? get yourself into school now. it won't be a waste at all. It will at least improve your chances of getting a good job. And belive me!! you are not too old to go to college. seriously!!! there are middle aged people in college. all different ages. granted, there are a lot of 18/19 year old kids, but they all drop out the first year. I'm 24, and still have a year left to go. so get your butt in college, learn something about something you're passionate about, and make a happy life for yourself. you are so young, I'm sure employers would be willing to look past that felony and see what a good person you are. anyways. good luck.

Go back to school. A felony for robbery won't hold you back that much. You've lived and learned. People make mistakes, if you've served your time and grown-up a bit then it's time to move on. I and the vast majority of people I know won't hold a youthful mistake against someone.

Oh please...get a degree in a short staffed field that doesnt do much background checks...(think engineering or construction/architecture..even foreign languages..but NOT nursing or real estate or business) and youll be fine. Since u did city year, you have the 4700 scholarship that should pay for most of your schooling...

You are doing this for you....only what you think is important...put your wants and needs over everyone elses sorry opinion...opinions don't cost nothing, but an education is priceless...live your life!
