I don't think it is really that good, especially the song Master of Puppets. "One" and "Unforgiven" are so much better. What is supposedly so good about Master of Puppets?

You are an idiot. Master of Puppets is still the benchmark for any metal album. It rocked so hard, it knocked a nation of metalheads on their collective butts. Listen to it again, turn it up LOUD, and let the music speak for itself.

In my opinion, Master of Puppets is a great album, because it is good through and through. I think every song on there is at the least good if not great and its the type of product not many bands, including Metallica, put out nowadays.

99% of the "albums" out there are a collection of 1 to 3 (4 max) singles or soundtracks for videos with a bunch of filler crap thrown in between.

For old schoolers like myself, Master of Puppets also has a special place because it was the last album that featured Cliff Burton, and the last one to have an instrumental track on it, again something that is long gone.

Not to nitpick your question too much, but you seem to be posing two questions or points, that of "Why do people consider 'Puppet' a great album?" and you are remarking that the actual song Master of Puppets is inferior to the songs "One" and "Unforgiven"

I will happily conced that song for song, Master of Puppets (the song) is easily beaten out by "One". But I disagree that "Unforgiven" is better than Master, or any other song out there.

But, "And Justice for All" while a quite solid album, doesn't hold up to Master of Puppetssong for song, or surely my favorite Metallica Album "Kill 'em All"

And as far as the Black album? Again, I apologise for being an old-school codger, but the only Bob Rock Metallica album worth anything was St. Anger.

again, all in my humble (yet incredibally long winded) opinion

Master of Puppets is what Metallica used to sound like.
The bass play Cliff Burton Died while on tour for that album and they proceeded to get softer and more pop. People who listen to Heavy Metal and not the popified version on radio today understand. One is a good song.
Unforgiven is a country song. The whole Black album is garbage. In fact, the only good record Metallica has put out in the last 10 years was Garage Inc. They got old and they got soft.

The energy, the raw sound(not overproduced) and the in your face vocals and drumming are what makes Master Of Puppets. What theyve done after puppets is candy as* fluff that most likely has Cliff Burton spinning in his grave.Whats so good about One & Unforgiven, good sobgwriteing but its not Metallica.

it's MASTER OF PUPPETS!!!
the old metallica is so much better than their new CRAP.
don't get me wrong, One and Unforgiven are great songs, but that whole album is awesome. from the opening acoustic riff in Battery to the ending aural maelstrom of Damage Inc. it kicks @$$. it's also the last album Cliff Burton played on. RIP
