Buy the 2004 Jeep.
Mercedes that are lemons have sent plenty of owners to the poor house. Expensive parts and labor costs.. forget about if you don't do it yourself.

Back in '04 I bought a low mileage '01 Jeep Wranger Sahara. Had 26,000 miles on it, 4.0 inline six w/5 speed manual trans. Also came with both tops and the 31x10.50x15 tire & Canyon wheel option. I have owned a variety of 4x4 pick-ups over the years that were supposedly "off-road capable" ! This Jeep could "climb" trees & rocks & potholes that those trucks couldn't even drive around ! It was an incredibly rugged vehicle, extremely well built, very easy to service and would put todays cars to shame from a durability and day to day use stand point.. It also rides rough, will deafen you on the freeway with the soft top on it, and doesn't have a trunk, per'se.. It also corners like it's on rails, which is nice in heavy traffic, sits higher than 99% of the cars, so you have a better view of the road ahead, laughs at rough roads and the "junk" you can't avoid with a car..Is shorter than most cars, so you can park it almost anywhere, and if you can't get there in two-wheel drive, I can almost guarantee you'll get there in four-wheel drive !! The A/C was COLD and the stereo would rattle your teeth loose.. Mine got 12-15 mpg in city traffic, but then, I've got a lead foot !! One last thing; I NEVER had to worry about scrapped paint, door dings or some idiot running into it in a parking lot.. You're comparing vehicles from completely different ends of the earth.. Yes, absolutely, a MB is a fantastic vehicle, extremely well built, durable and very, very snobbish, but God help you IF/WHEN something goes wrong !! Think $$$$$$$ !! I no longer own the Jeep ; gas prices and not being able to figure out how to carry 10' 2"x10"s or large appliances sent me back to a truck.. I miss my Jeep and if I had to do it over again I'd look for a dark color and one with the new 4 speed automatic.. Bet you could'nt guess I'm a Jeep Lover, could you !!??

The repairs on the Jeep will be cheaper, and even the amount of upcoming repairs depend on the individual vehicle, it is only 2 years old vs. 6 years old.
In the other hand the Mercedes is a better reputation brand and probably last longer.
If you are car savvy and are inclined to make your own repairs and maintenance, go for the MB. you'll be happy.
If the only maintenance you plan to do yourself is filling the gas tank, get the jeep. It will be cheaper to maintain.

Mercedes dear, Any day. Maintenence depends on your country. If you are in asia region maintenence will be lil higher, else if you are in middle east or US region maintenence wont be that expensive. As merc do have quality parts which wont get worn out easily and hence much better cost vs time analysis as a jeep. Jeep is good for off road more likely but DEFINITELY not for everyday use in city. Let me know your place and i can advise you more better.

if you are not trying to be affluent then i'd say the jeep is the better deal. with vehicles getting so complex these days the price to repair them is also complex as you would see should you go with the Mercedes.
the old saying goes something like this: "if you drive a Mercedes you don't ask the price of gas".

I would go with the jeep, but have them both checked internally.
The mercedes being older could have some hidden problems, also they are more expensive to fix, the parts are more expensive, and sometimes you have to wait because they have to be specially ordered.

i've heard great personal stories about mercedes. HAndles magnificently. though, maintenance and repair may be a bit more pricy than the jeep. personally i'd choose the mercedes especially if it has low mileage.
