I got a florecent light like the kind in the ceiling at stores the 36" long bulbs. Well one burned out so of course the other didn't work fully. I got a new one ( same part number and size) and they both work but only slightly. It's like they won't turn on all the way they stay dim. It's not cold so that wouldn't affect the gas in the bulbs and I also cleaned the connections with rubbing alcohol. Anyone know what could be wrong?

change BOTH fluorescent tubes at the same time.
If that does not work, replace the ballast.

It is the ballast that is causing this problem. They control the amount of current that flows through the lights. Most of the time it is cheaper to replace the whole light. Home improvement and hardware stores do carry a wide array of ballasts. The ballast is located under the metal plate under the bulbs. It is a long black box with wires attached

You might want to check the date of ballast installation. If it's being there for quite a while you may want to change them with the same type.
