The beach is much better in Redang Island but there are no good resorts. Penang has the best food in the whole country. You should also consider Langkawi Island.

Those islands on the Malaysia east coast seems O K. Redang Perhatian or Tioman.In btw, there are also Kapas and lang tengah. Since you got about 10 days, you can afford to travel further north up. For a short trip, there's an island, Pulau Besar just before Tioman, it's a quiet hide out and easy access from S'pore, just drop at Mersing (Johore) and you will find it !

very quiet but nice, you can drive along on your own , and good activities to do there.
