if u ask about computer fundamentals then we can suggest some books.
basically progam is set of instructions meant to do a particular task. set of programs make the software. take the example of a inventory software. it will have many programs i.e. menu,data entry screens, reports etc. all these are done using a program. a program is a set of instructions meant to do a particular task. a program can be written using any computer lanuage. for detailed explaination about compiler, interpretor everything go through some good computer fundamentals book. google it. u will get it.
