Problems is with our country. It is not that we are at war, what it is over, or who started it. It is that the majorty of our country has become cowards. no one wants to be in the military because they may have to fight for our country. Is it just me, or are we on a path that we might not be able to defend our country because of the attitude of todays youth towards defending our country, no matter what the cause? It use to be a honor to serve in our Armed Forces, but now they do not want to because they might die? That has ALWAYS been a posability.

Does anyone else think this, or am I just reading into todays lack of desire to protect our country wrong?

Info: I served 4 years in the Army, and I am 5th generation to do so. Today, I got into a argument with my sister because her daughter wants to enlist next year and she is doing everything to change her mind or stop her. She even suggested if it came to it, to get disqualified some way or another.

Well I'm 26 and I don't want to fight for my country b/c no one is invading us. I don't believe in fighting unless it's in self defense. Bin Laden isn't even in Iraq so what the f***. You think I'm gonna go lose my life over something that is totally off point of the real problem. Screw that. I'd rather go to jail. It's not like America is so great anyways. We have all this "freedom" where we can't smoke in bars, talk on cell phones, and then things like the Patriot Act. We have hardly any freedom here. You can't even say "penis" on tv without some soccer mom flipping the f*** out and the FCC fining them. You think I'm dying for that? Hell no.

Edit: I get so tired of that excuse. Whether or not we are in Iraq fighting is not going to change the US Constitution. So that argument is invalid. The only people out there that died for that right were the people in the Revolutionary War and the 2 World Wars. Furthermore, there are plenty of free countries out there, Canada, Australia, the UK, Netherlands and many more. The US is not the only free country.

Edit 2: When did i ever say anything about marijuana? Are you high? Also, I respect the soldiers who do what they do, I am not ignorant enough to boycott the soldiers fighting for what they believe in. I just said I do not agree with the war and I will not fight for what I do not believe in.

I feel the same way. I'm still a teenager I am joining the Marines or maybe the Air force no matter what comes up. I'm trying to convince others to join aswell. The United States has well over 300 million people in it. The third most populated country in the WORLD.

Only 2.6 million of those people are protecting this country. 1.2 million of them being active soldiers and 1.4 million of them being reserves. That's not alot to protect nearly 300 million people.

In response to "NoName"

We have more freedom then most countries. We are one of the only countries with etiquette;manners. Don't give the government crap just because they won't make marijuana legal. If I die as a soldier, I'll be dying for my country. I will be dying with honor. I won't be dying because of an over dose, "NoName".

Why would there be a need to say "penis" on television?

I wonder, why should I risk my own life? For an ungrateful person like you "NoName"? I'm going to be a soldier to Protect you all and for the expierence, I don't need money. That's why i'm going to be a soldier. Once my four years are up i'm going to goto college for 10 years and then re enlist, to continue protecting this country from terrorist.

Incase you were curious.

Prophet, where did you serve?

My grandfather served in vietnam. My great grandfather served in WW2 and my Great Great GrandFather served in WW1.

I never met neither of them except my grandfather. They both recieved medals one of them died and another came back handicapped.

If WW3 happens in my lifetime which I hope it sha'll never happen, I'll be serving in that war.

It is a potential problem, but not an actual one -- yet. The military has been able to recruit the number of people needed, and will be able to continue to do so as long as they pay well enough.

Prophet tell your sister to send her daughter over to Ireland. We don't have an army here. Neutral country just like Switzerland.

People become cold, or immune to repetitive anything.
I wouldn't worry about it though as bringing back conscription seems to be a popular political topic lately.
Now thats something to really think about.
