To find AA meetings in your town contact the 1-800 information operator for the toll free number. If the person has insurance you may be able to get them into rehab.
I suggest AA due to their success rate and the fact that their is no dogma there. You are free to be yourself and let others help you through withdrawal and a return to "normal" life...and there is no charge

Call the local AA office. You can find it in the white pages of the phone book under "Alcoholics Anonymous". If your friend is scared to go to a meeting, look for one that is "Open" and go with him or her. ("Open" meetings can be attended by anyone. "Closed" meetings are for people who have a problem (or think they might)).
Many people get sober by going to AA meetings alone and don't ever go to rehab. But rehab can be a good thing. Also, if your friend goes into withdrawal, he or she will need medical attention right away.
As far as "anything other than AA"--there are other programs, yes, but I don't know much about them. I got sober 8 years ago in AA so I know that it worked for me!

check on the internet... however... this person you are speaking of must be willing to help themselves first. Churches and other local facilities usually hold these meetings. Type in your county and AA meetings in a search that should help. Word of advice... be patient and there for the person you are speaking of. Good Luck and God Bless. Just remember to praise the one seeking help... it won't be easy... This is a battle for one. Taking control and admitting the addiction is an awesome start. Tell the person to find their inner strength and they will win!
