To either make other people miserable or happy or a little of both. Seriously life is what you want to make of it.

Asking what the meaning of life is, is like asking a corpse how a pizza tastes, it can't be answered. It's a question that just doesn't make sense, life can't have a meaning, but it can have a definition. The "meaning" varies from person to person, the purpose is whatever you make it to be, there's no universally accepted answer you will ever get. If I HAD to tell you, I would say the purpose rather than meaning, is to live as happy and peaceful as you can, because in such a cold world it's hard to have much of it, if you can get the most out of it, you've done half the job (the other half is accepting that there is no meaning, but a purpose created by each individual).

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

asking this question is the root to the meaning of life as asking this question is primary ethical technicity of a deconstructing marginalization from a Post-Nietzschean existential ontology for
the being of the entity whose being is an issue for itself, historically thrown in the world, simultaneously falling towards finite possibilities, including the ultimate possibility of negation (death), that, in an immediate authentically concernful circumspection (care), dwells unified in the present-at-hand spatiality (public and private) amongst Others, always already in the ready-at-hand negational violence of meaning (language), dis-empowered on the margins of the enframing phallologocentric teleological natural weltanschuaang (power), intentionally deconstructing (zizany) the priority of the ontological difference (question), repetitiously dis-covering an a priori existential phenomenological ontology.

In other words, the questioning of the question is the primary answering based on the given condition of beingness. Asking such questions is in short Love and answering them with the question itself is loving the love, and life is the living of this questioned questioning, i.e. living the loving of the love.

and that's the meaning of life.

For the benefit and glory of God

You should read the book entitled:
"The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren

Also, a good reference would be the first 5 books of the New Testament, you can start with the 4th and 5th (John and Acts)

If someone had an answer to this question, then there wouldn't be therapists.

Good question though, but only one answered in time. Everyone strives to obtain such knowledge about life and its purpose. However, I've learned that pondering the thought causes more headaches than needed. So sit back and enjoy life. Don't worry about why you have a life, just be gratefully you do. Happy new year.

There is no inherant meaning. Life has no meaning unless you give it meaning. It can be anything you want, but keep in mind that it is only relevant to you and will probably change over time. All the opinions you read are individual meanings to those people.

Well, maybe you're not a christian.........^_^

anyways in the bible.....it is written that the purpose of life is ONLY to glorify God's name on earth and to do God's MISSION which God has given to christians.

My dear fellow human being.......I'm no proper christian, but I do know christianity and I plan to become a christian.

Maybe you have some bad experiences about christians......such ppl are not REAL christians........real christians are those ppl those are reborn in the christ after repentance and getting forgiveness from God and they are really diff. from others...^_^

If you are confused of the purpose of life......why not join some nice proper organisation....a protestant organisation.

UBF is one such church and organisation which helps young ppl to know about the purpose of life. Also, Its not some kinda church where you HAVE to be good or something or where you HAVE to give offerings.I am sure that you will feel only TOO lucky that you have God beside you, as I do.

Life with God has been a pleasure and great comfort for me in times of distress and need.

He has given me all the things that I ever needed.

IF you are truly interested.....please email me.....maybe I can lead you to UBF and pray for you to realise the purpose of life...^_^

Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.

I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.

You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -
