I think it's a couple of reasons... 1) Rap is hugely popular right now, but melody shall forever be king. most rappers can't sing and most singers can't rap, so they join forces to create works that feature both elements. 2) The record companies realized that a song featuring two ---or more--- artists stands a chance of registering sales from BOTH artists' fan bases.

I think because that way the main artist can fall back on the other artist for fans. If you don't like the main artist you might like the backup or supporting or featured artist. Plus it gives new artists a chance to gain fans and it breathes new life into old artists when they come up with a song featuring someone newer and hipper.

From what I know people like to hear the combination of two or more people's voices. It creates a cool rhythmic sound that most people like. Not everybody but most people.

Everybody loves a collaboration. Two crappy artists separately=crap. Put them together....GOLD!

because artists are unable to write songs on their own. they have codependency issues
