Mesopotamian people developed many technologies, among them metalworking, glassmaking, textile weaving, food control, and water storage and also irrigation. They were also one of the first Bronze age people in the world. Early on they used copper, bronze and gold, and later they used iron. Palaces were decorated with hundreds of kilograms of these very expensive metals. Also, copper, bronze, and iron were used for armor as well as for different weapons such as swords, daggers, spears, and maces.
Mathematics
The Mesopotamians used a sexagesimal (base 60) numeral system. This is the source of the current 60-minute hour and 24-hour day, as well as the 360 degree circle. This was also close to the days in a year 360-365. The Sumerian calendar also measured weeks of seven days each. This mathematical knowledge was used in mapmaking.
Astronomy
Mesopotamian astronomers worked out a 12 month calender based on the cycles of the moon. They divided the year into two seasons: summer and winter. The origins of astrology probably date from this time.

Alexander the Great, for one. But in all honesty that was a metropolis of conquerors, literature, poets, musicians, all from the earliest civilizations culminated there and made an empire. They had a certain type of written language that we adopted a portion of today. The place to really get facts would be at the www.history.com site and get the pics as well.
Happy New Year.

Writing, for one thing. They created the earliest writing system known to man, known as cuneiform.
They also domesticated animals, used wheeled carts for transportation, traded with other societies, and much more.
