Unfortunately I think it is possible. I don't think people take the terrorist threat (ie Muslim extremists) seriously enough. The leader of Iran poses the biggest threat to our demise in my opinion.

If the US gets into a war with Iran, which looks more and more probable every day, we're pretty much stuck on a course for nuclear annihilation.

Leogirl, try paying a bit more attention to the saber-rattling our administration is doing. Notice that they didn't really attempt to work things out with Iran diplomatically. Our government turned down direct talks with Iran when they offered to negotiate about everything under the sun, from nuclear policy to how to scrub camel butts. This war is coming whether you want it or not, and we're all going to have to deal with the consequences. Keep your head in the sand, but your rear will be converted to radioactive dust. Peace ;P

World oil production has peaked and is now going into an irreversible decline. In a nutshell, for oil dependent countries, this means massive problems ahead. Do a Yahoo search on "Peak oil" and read all about it. We are now witnessing the beginning of the end of the industrial age and the USA with all its racial hatred and wide gaps between the "Haves" and the "Have-Nots", is going to see some major turmoil.

SMOOTH I totally agree with you. I don't really see our civilization ending due to war.

I feel we are all close to killing ourselves by the abuse of our planet. Most people are too naive, ignorant, or selfish to listen about global warming, de-forestation, and all the nasty stuff we feed our oceans.

Al Gore is a good spokesman for our planet, and alot of people will not realize what he is saying is true until it happens and it's too late to do anything about it.

If you're interested in learning about global warming visit www.algore.com and check it out. Bad stuff is happening already (all the wacky weather), and it's totally going to get worse.

It does seem like a possibility.

There is a book, "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire", by Gibbons

And it pretty closely paralels what is going on for us.

But I think we would do better to listen to Al Gore, and heed his advice, and consider what could happen to our planet first.

Cause' that is what we all live on!
