You can't really BOOST reception. You can boost transmission and improve reception.

Are you trying to improve your range? If so, getting an adapter with an external antenna might help.

If you buy one of these adapters make sure to turn off the internal one or you will have conflicts. Other that that, it's fairly simple. You usually install a CD that comes with the adapter, then insert the adapter.

The problem is your wireless source rather than the wireless receiver in your laptop. In order to get a stronger signal at your house, you need to buy an access point, wi-fi extender or stronger wi-fi antenna.

I personally like a wireless access point. It's probably the most expensive out of the three options. It costs about the same as a wireless router and sometimes it is a wireless router. It acts as a wireless access point, which means you connect to the access point rather than your router. In essence, you are splitting the distance by 50%, therefore boosting your signal 200%.

There are wi-fi extenders that plug into the wall. As for the antenna, if you have the right type of router, you can disconnect your wireless router antenna and get a stronger antenna.
