Just stop thinking, about other stuff. Just do what you set out to do, if that means studying on Friday night and no computer, or game or going, than that's what it means. You must have disciplined, patient, and stay focused and dedicated to your study

In my experience, lack of motivation often indicates depression. It can be hard just to decide what needs to be done, let alone do it.

Motivation is like the positive side of addiction. We are naturally motivated to do what makes us feel good, and to keep doing it until the good feeling stops. We are not NATURALLY motivated to do what what someone tells us is good, even if we believe them.

Step 1 is to find something that makes you feel good or stops a bad feeling (and - important - not just short term (e.g., drinking > feel "good" > hangover). Step 2 is to figure out what about it causes the good feeling/stops the bad. You can then find other things that work and what works well together.

If you are thoroughly convinced that the outcome is worthwhile (i.e., convinced by visualizing, researching, etc. that it will make you feel good; NOT necessarily that it is a good thing to do but that you personally will derive great pleasure from it), then you will be motivated. You then have to watch out for and avoid distractions (tiredness, conflicting interests and so on). This involves self-care and planning.

Motivation changes as life changes; sometimes you have to step back and reassess if your basic drives are shifting.

(Doing good and doing what feels good can be compatible, but as far as motivation goes IMHO you have to start with what feels good).

Actually, constantly, visualize the result,
the light at the end of the tunnell.
See yourself every day, even for a moment, as that person you want to be.
You will make it happen!

Big hug for you....

to encourage myself to study i always set goals and then tell myself that if i didnt try my hardest to acheive them then i will regret it. not to mention the consequences that result. you are responsible for your own success! (and your own failure) the only one stopping you is yourself.
