My husband is overseas right now. So, I am basically a single mother with two girls 5 and 2. We had a big dog that was becoming too much for me to handle. He was our dog, my husbands too. I found him a good home and gave him away. My husband was a little upset but understanding. Now, I feel bad about it and want to make it up to him. We just bought a house before he left and it has a finished basement. I was wanting to decorate it with his favorite sports teams.... but I no nothing of what a guy wants in a "sports" themed room. We already have a bar down there with a TV. What should I do? His favorite teams are the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds, obvioulsy we live in Cincinnati. But the colors are bengals- black and orange, reds- black, white, red. How do I do this room? Where can I get memoribilia for it??

I was thinking about painting the Bengals and the Reds logo on the wall. I just don't know where to get anything else. I can't spend a fortune here.

Any malls near where you live should have some sports stores, and they should have PLENTY of Cincinnati stuff, since you live in the area.

Posters of players or the actual team's logo are usually the most popular stuff that are bought, but there are also plenty of other items. Just browse around and look for anything that has a Bengals or Reds logo on it.

There's also these things called, "Fatheads". They're basically life-size pictures of players(maybe you could get Chad Johnson if you choose to do this) that you stick up on an empty space on the wall. You can't get them in stores, but there's a link below that you can follow to get more info on them.

I just did the exact same thing to my den a few months ago. First, between the Bengals and Reds, which ever he is more passionate about, paint the walls those colors. Add a dartboard if you can to give it even more of a bar feel. You can find electronic ones for pretty cheap or maybe a used one. Then a few posters, pennants, and other decorations here and there and he'll have a sports room all his own. A great place to look for stuff is an antique shop for authentic vintage memorabilia from the Reds and Bengals championship years. Trust me he will love it. And living in Cincy that should be very easy to find. The malls sports memorabilia stores will have plenty of other things to help decorate the room as well. Also, good for you for doing this for your husband, he is a very lucky man.

I guess the first thing to do is to call his parents, brother/s, sister/s,and good friends and see if they know what some of his favorite players are. Gather as much info and input from them as possible. Then go on-line to Modells or ESPN Shop.

Another option is you can go on E-Bay and type in Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds and it will pull all kind of stuff from trading cards to lamps, posters, jerseys you name it. You would also get some great deals and unique finds!!

Cool stuff you can get:
Player name or customized jersey
Beer Mugs
Indoor out door chairs
T-Shirts
Jackets
Pennants
Photos
Posters

You will do fine.

I'm not from Cinicinnati, so I can't tell you where to get things in your town. I can tell you no amount of sports teams would make up for my dog being gone. It's a nice gesture though, and what's done is done. If your husband is overseas in the military, as I am, I would suggest contacting both of those organizations to see what kind of things they might be willing to donate. You don't have to do a whole room of that, but a wall of each is good. Pick paint schemes that blend the two without clashing and give each wall it's own space, look and signature from each team. Things to look for are clocks, posters, pictures and such from each team. Possibly pennants, and of course you can always get the appropriate coasters for each "season". It would be very easy to spend a lot of money on this, but a thrifty person would use yard sales, ask friends and neighbors if they had any old memorabilia, and again solicit the actual franchises for some of their publicity items.

Find a sports collectible show in your area, there are plenty of them. Attend the show and there will be lots of stuff for you to look at personally and choose from. Look through a copy of Beckett magazine and your local newstand for some shows in your area. The larger show you attend, the better the selection will be. Bring ample payment methods, as some items are quite pricey. Maybe a framed autographed jersey of one of his favorite players would be a good start. Police mug shots of all the Bengals players that have recently been arrested would be cheap, but probably not well liked. Good luck. I am sure your husband will be pleased.
