There are lots of causes for a slow computer. If she doesn't have an antivirus, she probably doesn't have a firewall, or antispyware programs. IF she doesn't have any of these, then it's very likely her browser is hijacked by spyware or malware.

If this is the case, then it is most likely the reason she has a slow computer and cant surf the internet. If she uses Internet Explorer, then it is twice as likely it is hijacked. Try running antivirus antispyware programs on her comp and clean out the infections. good luck..

I have seen what teens use for wallpaper and screensavers. It's a wonder they can navigate at all. Graphics consume memory as they run in the background. I'll bet you will notice a difference just by losing the wallpaper and setting the screensaver to blank or none.

After that, check the Startup Menu. Load only those programs you intend to use daily. For the rest, give them a minute to load.

There are other housekeeping items, but these seem to be two of the biggest offenders. Would be interested in knowing if it helps.

What you can do is try to reformat the computer. Also there are some free software that will protect your computer very good, so there is really no need to buy any software. For example theres the free firewall called "zonealarm", free antivirus called "AVG Anti-Virus", there are more kinds of software like this you just have to search. I suggest looking in PCworld.com or cnet.com for these softwares or how to protect your pc. good luck.

Have you tried Reformatting, then going to the store, to buy a Virus program?

That may be the Quickest way..

because alot of the Free Virus programs Do not, Remove Virus/spyware they jus protect you from after the point you installed it.

Your welcome,
Hope This Helps.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

Get a macintosh; they're stable, since they were designed with stability in mind.

Other than that, just reinstall the operating system from scratch. You could uninstall various programs first to see if it helps, but once a machine is compromised, it's really the only way.
